On April 09th 2013, CSP facilitated a management planning workshop for Ant Atoll Biosphere Reserve. The workshop was made possible by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through The Nature’s Conservancy. CSP invited representatives from One Reef Micronesia’s Wayne Andrew, former Palau Congressman, Surech Hideyos from the Micronesia Challenge regional office, representatives of Nanpei Estate, Pohnpei State Department of Safety’s Division of Fish & Wildlife, and the Attorney General’s office in the workshop. The workshop aimed to address the issues holding back Ant Atoll from government legislation, discrepancies between stakeholder groups, and other factors that include finalization of a management planning draft.
Several effectiveness tools such as the SWOT analysis, a structured planning method used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project, were utilized to guide the management planning. Collaborative planning between the stakeholders present during the workshop enabled the completion of the draft. CSP is now finalizing the draft and will be later shared with key leaders of the state government of Pohnpei.
