3 New Pakin MPAs

June 9, 2011 | The Pakin community gathered on Nikahlap, the main island of the atoll, to honor and celebrate the mounting of 12 markers that distinguish the boundaries of their three newly-established Marine Protected Areas (MPA). A ceremony, planned by the Pakin community, began with traditional sakau preparation to commemorate the presence of the highly-esteemed guests, including Congressman Doses D. Halbert; Senator Peter M. Lohn of the Pohnpei State Legislature, who also serves as Wasahi Sokehs, the second-highest title in the line of the paramount chief (Nahnmwarki) of Sokehs, and many others.

Y2Y Environmental Fair

May 19, 2011 | CSP and its partner agencies held the 10th Annual Environmental Fair as part of its Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) in Environmental Awareness and Education Program. More than 500 people attended, including Mr. Chang Waidong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, and Mr. Gibson Santos, who delivered the keynote address. Students, teachers, principals, and parents from seven schools gathered to conduct informative, educational presentations about the environment.

LMMA Network Anniversary

May 8, 2011 | After ten long years of hard work, the Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMA) Network has set a new milestone by sealing its governance structure and establishing the first council to serve as its advisory board. Mr. Eugene Joseph of CSP and Mr. Mike Chipen of the Pakin MPA communities were present to represent the Pohnpei LMMA Network.
